PRE-FABRICATED FERROCEMENT STAIRCASE

The desired form for the stairs seen is built from a multi-layered construction of chicken mesh wire, reinforced with 10mm steel bars. This is placed within a wooden formwork and an appropriate mixture of cement, sand, gravel and water is poured to evenly spread out within the formwork. This is left to cure for two weeks. The final thickness of ferrocement tread achieved here is 3cms. The installation of the treads includes careful insertion within masonry walls (of minimum 23 cms thick) like any conventional cantilevered staircase. Props are engaged to offer additional support and a maximum of one flight of stairs is installed at any given point of time.
